US startup X-energy just raised $700 million to supercharge nuclear tech
Business
X-energy, a US-based nuclear startup, has pulled in a massive $700 million from its latest funding round—bringing its total in the last year or so to $1.4 billion.
The company plans to use this cash to help build the supply chain for its small modular reactors (SMRs), which already have 144 orders lined up.
Who's backing them and what's next?
This funding round was led by Jane Street, with support from Ares Management and ARK Invest.
X-energy's SMRs are high-tech, using helium gas and uranium-coated pebbles to safely generate electricity—tech that's also catching on in Japan and China.
Big names like Amazon are already on board as customers.
With investor interest soaring, X-energy is aiming to make clean nuclear energy more accessible as global demand keeps rising.
