Vodafone Idea partners with AST SpaceMobile
Vodafone Idea (Vi) is teaming up with AST SpaceMobile to boost mobile internet in hard-to-reach parts of India.
Thanks to AST's tech, even regular smartphones will be able to connect directly to satellites—no extra gear needed.
This move supports the Digital India mission and aims to make connectivity smoother where it's usually patchy.
AST will build the satellites
AST will build and run the satellites, while Vi connects them with its existing network and handles market rollout.
Together, they'll offer voice, video, and data services across the country, making sure more people stay connected wherever they are.
Better coverage in rural areas
This should mean way better coverage in places that often get left out—think faster emergency help or easier online classes in rural areas.
It's a big step for India's satellite internet scene, following moves like Airtel working with SpaceX.
