#CareerBytes: Top PSUs accepting #GATE2020 score and other important details
After completing engineering, a number of candidates who want to secure a job in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) opt for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). It is conducted for admission to postgraduate courses, but GATE scores are accepted by many PSUs for recruiting graduate engineers. GATE 2020 is scheduled for February next year and here are some top PSUs accepting GATE score.
IIT Delhi will be conducting the GATE 2020 examination which is scheduled to be held on February 1, 2, 8, and 9 next year. This time, the examination will be held in as many 25 engineering disciplines (25 papers) - one more than last time - with the addition of Biomedical Engineering as a new paper to the list of subjects.
The GATE 2020 online application process will commence on September 3 on the official GATE IIT-Delhi website. The last date to fill the GATE application form online is September 24. However, the extended closing date for submitting online application is October 1. The admit cards will be released on January 3. After the examination in February, IIT-Delhi will announce the results on March 16.
To apply for GATE, candidates should at least have a four-year bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, architecture, or science. Those having a master's degree in any branch of science/math/statistics/computer applications; or four-year integrated master's degree in engineering technology; or five-year integrated master's or dual degree in engineering/technology are also eligible. Also, there are no minimum and maximum age limits to appear for GATE.
Over 60 PSUs in India accept GATE scores to recruit candidates to various entry-level engineering-related posts. Candidates are generally shortlisted for recruitment on the basis of their GATE scores. They might be required to attend a few selection rounds, including group discussion and personal interview, depending on the company's recruitment procedure. However, some PSUs also use GATE scores for direct recruitment.
Though GATE scores are valid for three years for postgraduate admissions, PSUs generally consider only recent GATE scores for recruitment. Also, PSU recruitment cutoffs vary from company to company every year and also depend on a number of factors like the number of vacancies, number of applicants, GATE paper difficulty, applicant's category, number of candidates who appeared for the exam, etc.
