Aamir Khan reveals casting challenges for Thugs of Hindostan
Aamir Khan recently got candid about the casting struggles for his 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan.
He shared that big names like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, and Shraddha Kapoor all turned down the project.
"When we were casting, no heroines agreed to the film. Deepika said no, Alia was a no, and Shraddha also said no," he recalled.
Fatima Sana Shaikh was cast after several rejections
After several rejections, Fatima Sana Shaikh joined the cast—but not opposite Aamir.
The team felt audiences might not accept them as a pair after their father-daughter roles in Dangal.
Despite a star-studded lineup with Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif and a massive ₹310 crore budget, Thugs of Hindostan barely broke even at the box office.

Aamir has openly discussed Thugs of Hindostan as a significant failure and admitted he wasn't excited about its release.
He mentioned creative clashes with producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya: "I told them this is not going to work, but they didn't listen."
Looking back, he simply says it was "not a very good film."
