AR Rahman supports Bollywood's #MeToo movement with a powerful message

Bollywood's #MeToo movement has engulfed the nation ever since Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. Several celebrities have extended support to the victims and lauded women for displaying courage and speaking up. Now, music maestro AR Rahman has broken his silence on the burning issue and extended support to the victims. He even said the revelations have left him shocked.

"Would love to see our industry become respectful of women"

Expressing his concern over the dark side of Bollywood, Rahman shared a post on Twitter. He said that the names tagged in #MeToo movement, of both victims and perpetrators, have shocked him. Rahman also lauded the victims for their courage and said that he would love if the industry became "cleaner and respectful of women." The legend's message speaks volumes and we second him.

Rahman is committed to creating a safe environment for women

Further, the music maestro stated that he ensures a safe creative space at his workplace. Rahman also added that he and his team are committed to creating a safe environment for women. "To all my endeavors, my team and I are committed to creating an environment where everyone finds a safe creative space to bring their best, evolve and succeed," he added.

Be careful about creating new internet justice system

Rahman also drew attention towards the probable misuse of the social media amidst the ongoing #MeToo movement. He said that although he supports the campaign, one must be cautious about the "new internet judicial system". "Social media offers great freedom for victims to speak up, however, we should be careful in creating a new internet justice system, in case it's misused," Rahman wrote.

#MeToo exposes Sajid Khan, Anu Malik, Alok Nath and more

Notably, Rahman's statement came after #MeToo exposed biggies like Sajid Khan, Anu Malik, Alok Nath etc. They were accused of sexual harassment. In fact, the fierce campaign has drawn the attention towards the dark side of the glamor world. But lately, Bollywood's no tolerance policy towards sexual harassment has led to severe actions against the predators. Looks like the industry is ready to change.
