What's the story

The fourth season of Netflix's popular period drama Bridgerton is set to premiere on January 29. The upcoming season will adapt Julia Quinn's third novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, which follows the love story between Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett. Showrunner Jess Brownell has promised a lot of "juicy conflict" in this adaptation, calling it the "easiest book to adapt" so far.

Plot details

'Rich set pieces' in 'Bridgerton' S04

Brownell, who is also the executive producer and writer of the show, told Entertainment Weekly that An Offer From a Gentleman "lent itself" well to television. "There are just a lot of rich set pieces that gave us juicy conflict and high stakes. I think fans will be happy to see quite a few of the set pieces from the book in the show."

Character development

Class dynamics between Benedict and Sophie will be explored

Brownell also revealed that the show will delve into the class dynamics between Benedict, a Bridgerton heir, and Sophie, a working-class woman. This exploration brings a "totally new sensibility" to the Regency Era series. "Benedict very much lives in a fantasy world. Sophie very much lives in a harsher reality," Brownell explained. "The idea is that, for each of them, neither of those stations are where they need to live in order to find true love."

Ensemble focus

'Bridgerton' S04 will continue storylines of ensemble cast

In addition to Benedict and Sophie's love story, the fourth season of Bridgerton will also continue the storylines of other characters. This includes newlyweds Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), as well as Benedict's sister Eloise (Claudia Jessie). Brownell said, "It's a season where we try to make sure all of the siblings feel present in some way and present in the main love story as much as possible."

Release schedule

'Bridgerton' S04 will premiere in 2 parts

The fourth season of Bridgerton will be released in two parts. The first four episodes will premiere on January 29, followed by the remaining four episodes on February 26.
