What's the story

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has informed the Bombay High Court that Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency will only be cleared for release if specific cuts are made. These changes were recommended by the CBFC's revising committee, as stated by Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing the CBFC. The response follows a plea from Zee Studios, co-producer of Emergency, seeking the release of the censor certificate.

Release postponement

'Emergency' release delayed due to protests from Sikh groups

The initial release date for Emergency was set for September 6 but was postponed due to protests from Sikh groups. These groups allege that the film misrepresents their community. Advocate Sharan Jagtiani, representing Zee Studios, presented a document listing 11 changes—including cuts and insertions—that need to be made before the film's release. The filmmakers now have the option to either accept these changes or challenge them in court.

Court adjournment

High court adjourned 'Emergency' matter to Monday

The High Court has adjourned the matter related to Emergency's release to Monday (September 30). The court's ruling will determine whether the filmmakers need to make these changes or if they can challenge them legally. Earlier, Ranaut defended her film, stating, "It is our history which has been intentionally hidden." She added that her film is ready for release. "Four historians supervised our films. We have the proper documents. There is nothing wrong with my film."
