Entertainment
Comedy legend Eddie Murphy is getting the AFI Life Achievement Award, one of Hollywood's highest honors.
The ceremony happens April 18, 2025, at LA's Dolby Theatre.
AFI chair Kathleen Kennedy called him "an American icon" and "a trailblazing force in the art forms of film, television and stand-up comedy, his versatility knows no bounds."
Nearly 5 decades of laughs and impact
Murphy started as a teenage stand-up star before joining Saturday Night Live and starring in classics like Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America.
He earned an Oscar nomination for Dreamgirls in 2007, and his story is featured in the Netflix doc Being Eddie.
With this award, he joins legends like Nicole Kidman and Denzel Washington—becoming the 51st person ever honored by AFI.
