    While the award for the Best Actor, Motion Picture (Drama) was won by Leonardo DiCaprio for 'Revenant', Matt Damon won the award for Best Actor in a motion picture (musical or comedy) for 'Martian'. Jennifer Lawrence took home Best performance by an Actress (musical or comedy) for 'Joy'. Brie Larson won the Best Actress (Drama) for her role in 'Room'.

    History of the Golden Globes

    The Golden Globe Award is an American award bequeathed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which recognizes "excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign." The first Golden Globe Awards were presented in 1943. The category of television awards began after 1956. It is the third most viewed award show after the Oscars and the Grammy Awards.

    Not without little sparks

    During the show, after the introduction of Mel Gibson's 'Mad Max' clip, Gibson unleashed a "Gervais-is-butt-cancer" joke to which host Gervais said something which wasn't audible to the audience. Gibson's reaction left everyone on the edge of their seats. Taraji Henson invited laughs when she refused to wrap her speech when music began, saying "I waited 20 years for this, you gon' wait."

    Best in movies and supporting cast

    Best motion picture for drama and that for comedy went to 'The Revenant' and 'The Martian' respectively. Best foreign language film award went to 'Son of Saul' while 'Inside Out' won in the animated movie category. Best supporting actor and actress (motion picture) was bagged by Sylvester Stallone for 'Creed' and Kate Winslet for 'Steve Jobs'.

    The Best television series (drama) went to 'Mr. Robot' and 'Mozart in the Jungle' (musical or comedy). The Best Actor awards for drama and comedy/musical went to Jon Hamm, 'Mad Men' and Gael García Bernal, 'Mozart in the Jungle' respectively. Best Actress Award (drama) was bagged by Taraji P. Henson for 'Empire' and Rachel Bloom for 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' (comedy).
