'Manikarnika' first day collection: Kangana's movie gets a dull start
Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi was one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Besides, the movie also marks Kangana's debut as a director which added to the excitement. But despite the substantial buzz surrounding Manikarnika, it failed to leave a mark at the box office. Manikarnika witnessed a dull start and earned just Rs. 8.75 crore on the first day.
Based on the life of Rani Laxmibai, Manikarnika evoked rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. Undoubtedly, Kangana nailed it with her impeccable performance as Rani Laxmibai and we can't get over her regal aura. And, it was Kangana's most ambitious project in her career spanning 13 years. Besides, Saroj Khan's choreography was said to be one of the best elements of Manikarnika.
Given the appreciation from audience, Manikarnika was expected to perform well at the box office. But contrary to the expectations, it witnessed a dull start since its first show. According to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "#Manikarnika picked up towards evening, after an ordinary/dull start in morning... #RepublicDay holiday should witness a big turnaround... Sure, there's appreciation, but it has to convert into footfalls".
Box office numbers play an important role in a movie's success and Kangana has high hopes from Manikarnika. The actress stated that she is expecting Manikarnika to do great business. "We should definitely make money. I mean, there is no doubt about it. It's business and nobody should lose money and I really hope we do great business," Kangana told Times Now.
Interestingly, Kangana's Manikarnika witnessed a box office clash with Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Thackeray. Both biopics are expected to give fierce competition to each other. However, given the patriotic mood surrounding Republic Day, Manikarnika is likely to have an upper hand at the box office. But it remains to be seen if the word of mouth will change the game for Thackeray in the opening weekend.
