Saroj Khan was a popular Indian dance choreographer born on November 22, 1948. She was best known for performing a dance form called 'Mujra' and is widely regarded as the first woman choreographer of Bollywood. After working as an assistant choreographer, Khan finally got her break as an independent choreographer with Sadhana Shivdasani's 'Geeta Mera Naam' (1974). Later, Khan received critical acclaim for her work in songs like 'Main Teri Dushman, Dushman Tu Mera' in 'Nagina' (1986), 'Hawa Hawai' from 'Mr. India' (1987), 'Mere Haathon Mein' in 'Chandni' (1989), and 'Dhak Dhak Karne Laga' from 'Beta' (1992), among others. Her career spanned over 40 years, and she choreographed dance routines for over 3,000 songs. She has served as a judge on the reality dance show 'Nach Baliye', which aired on STAR One in 2005. 'The Saroj Khan Story,' a documentary on her life directed by Nidhi Tuli, was released in 2012. Khan died on July 3, 2020, at 71 of a cardiac arrest.
