What's the story

The cast and crew of the upcoming film Ikkis recently paid their respects at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Actors Agastya Nanda, Simar Bhatia, and Jaideep Ahlawat were seen standing in silence as they honored Indian soldiers. The visit was especially poignant as Ikkis is based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a Param Vir Chakra awardee who fought bravely during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. It's directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Know more about Khetarpal's valor

Khetarpal, a tank commander, was born in Pune in 1950 into a family of soldiers. During the 1971 war, his battalion's primary objective was to establish a bridgehead over the Basantar River, which they accomplished despite facing a minefield. When other troops needed immediate backup, Khetarpal led his tank into the Pakistani attack. Despite being pinned down by enemy fire, he and two remaining tanks destroyed 10 enemy tanks before being killed. He was 21.
