    What's the story

Angry Indians have unleashed their wrath on American singer Katy Perry after she posted a photo of Goddess Kali on Instagram with the caption, "current mood."

Though she received support from some, most comments on the post are abusive, accusing her of being insensitive.

Till the publication of this report, Perry hasn't commented on the controversy and hasn't removed the post either.

    Execution, rape threats on Instagram

Some users called for "execution" and even assault of the singer, demanding she delete the post and apologize.

"Please do not compare yourself with God!! You can have any kind of mood what you want but you must respect other religion also!! (sic)," said kumarsanjay46.

justfeelneerKatty said, "She's indian lord. Don't upload of her pic with such a cheap status. (sic)"

However, some rose up in Perry's defence.

khalidwani was quick to foresee the controversy, "You do realise it can have adverse effects. She is a goddess. I suggest you remove it before the ones who get offended start retaliating."

"This shows u respect our goddess as u have posted a picture of her…we show veiw it with this perspective #whysoangryindians?????? (sic)," wrote w.riters.p.a.la.ce.

    #whysoangryindians?: Social media users ask

Indian users on social media have often been in news for outraging over remarks by celebrities.

Recently, users hurled abusive comments at Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel and his partner supermodel Miranda Kerr after he allegedly called India a "poor" country.

In 2014, fans of Sachin Tendulkar filled Maria Sharapova's social media pages with angry comments after she admitted she didn't know who he was.
