BO report: Akshay's 'Kesari' inches close to Rs. 100 crore
It's been a week since Akshay Kumar's recent release Kesari hit the theaters and it is unstoppable at the box office. The movie has been setting the cash registers on fire since the first day itself. And as Akshay's war drama is enjoying rave reviews from fans and critics alike, it is likely to enter the coveted Rs. 100cr club this week.
'Kesari' raked in Rs. 93 crore in six days
Notably, after a fantastic opening weekend, Kesari witnessed a massive dip on its first Monday and raked in Rs. 8.25cr. The drop in collection continued on the sixth day as well when the movie earned Rs. 7.17cr, taking the overall total to Rs. 93.49cr. However, the positive reviews came to rescue of Kesari, which might push the movie to cross Rs. 100cr mark today.

Piracy might have taken a toll on collection
To recall, Kesari became the recent target of piracy giant TamilRockers and was leaked online just a day after its release. According to media reports, the movie was available for free download in HD quality. It seems it has taken a toll on the collection.
'Kesari' highest opener of 2019, second highest opener for Akshay
Interestingly, Kesari, also starring Parineeti Chopra, went on to become the highest opener of 2019 so far. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to declare, "Kesari roar. Emerges the biggest opener of 2019 [so far]. Thu Rs. 21.50 cr. India biz". In fact, the movie also became Akshay's second biggest opener of his career. The first place is taken by Gold.
'Kesari' is the story of 21 braveheart Sikh soldiers
For the uninitiated, Kesari narrates the story of the Battle of Saragarhi, which is said to be one of "the bravest battles ever fought" in the history of the world. This battle was fought between 21 soldiers of the British Indian Army's Sikh Regiment and 10,000 Afghan tribesmen in September 1897. The regiment, which was led by Havildar Ishar Singh, fought till their death.
