Kumar Sanu takes ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya to court over viral allegations
Playback singer Kumar Sanu has filed a ₹30 lakh defamation suit against his ex-wife, Rita Bhattacharya, in the Bombay High Court.
He wants interviews taken down where Bhattacharya accused him of mistreating her during pregnancy and neglecting their family.
The case is set for hearing on December 17, 2025.
What sparked the legal battle?
In September, Bhattacharya's interviews went viral with claims that Sanu denied her food and medical care while she was pregnant and conducted court proceedings while she was expecting.
Sanu says these statements have seriously damaged his reputation and caused him distress. His lawyer sent a legal notice warning of civil and criminal action.
Sanu also points out that their 2001 consent agreement barred such public allegations, so he's asking for both damages and takedowns of those videos.
