Supreme Court to screen 'Laapataa Ladies' today; Aamir-Kiran to attend
The Supreme Court of India will host a special screening of the critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies on Friday. The movie, which centers around the theme of gender equality, will be presented to the court's judges, their families, and registry officials. This event is part of a series of activities commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court's establishment.

The screening is scheduled to take place in the Auditorium, C-block, Administrative Building Complex from 4:15pm to 6:20pm. A communication circulated by the Supreme Court's administration section read, "As part of the activities organized during the 70-fifth year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie Laapataa Ladies will be screened on Friday, August 9, 2024."
Chief Justice of India, Aamir Khan among attendees
Prominent actor and producer Aamir Khan, along with Kiran Rao, the director of Laapataa Ladies, are expected to attend the screening. The event's schedule also indicates that the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, other Supreme Court judges, and their spouses will be present.
'Laapataa Ladies' gained popularity after OTT release
Laapataa Ladies had a modest box office performance when it was initially released in theaters earlier this year. However, it gained considerable popularity following its release on the OTT platform Netflix a few months later. The film's screening at the Supreme Court today is a significant achievement for this cult classic directed by Rao.
