The Assam Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly posting a controversial video related to the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, reported ANI. The accused, identified as Md Injamul Hoque, was apprehended from Nagaon district. He reportedly uploaded an inflammatory edited video on his Facebook account under the name SK Ahmad. Garg (52) passed away in Singapore on September 19, allegedly by drowning.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Md Injamul Hoque (27 years), son of Late Rowsot Uddin of Telia Bebejia, PS-Juria, Nagaon, has been apprehended for posting a controversial video on his Facebook page under the name SK Ahmad on 15 October 2025." "During interrogation, he admitted to uploading the video himself."

SPF rules out foul play in Garg's death
Sarma further revealed that Hoque confessed to creating and uploading the edited video after obtaining the original clip from an OTT platform. He added inflammatory remarks through editing. Meanwhile, on Friday, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) ruled out foul play in Garg's death. SPF has been investigating Garg's death in accordance with Singapore's Coroners Act 2010. SPF said they were aware of speculation and false information online about Garg's death, but didn't suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently visited Garg's family and paid tributes to the late singer. He called Garg "honest, unshakable, and beautiful like Kanchenjunga." He also emphasized that the people of Assam deserve truth and justice through a swift and transparent investigation. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Special Investigation Team and Crime Investigation Department of Assam Police produced two alleged accused, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami (Garg's bandmate) and Amitprava Mahanta (Garg's co-singer), before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Assam Police to visit Singapore for investigation
On Thursday, Sarma announced that a police team from Assam will travel to Singapore on October 20. The team will meet the local police authorities on October 21 as part of the ongoing investigation into Garg's death. Sarma said in a post on X, "Another step forward toward justice for our beloved Zubeen." "The Singapore Police authorities will meet the Assam Police team led by Sri Munna Gupta, ADGP and Head of SIT."
