Meet the Fortuin brothers: Army vets taking on wild new adventures

Entertainment

Alan (66) and Garry Fortuin (63), army veterans from Leicester, are proving age is just a number.
Alan is set to row across the Atlantic in The World's Toughest Row, while Garry will climb Aconcagua—the highest peak in the Americas—with other Falklands War veterans.
Their journeys kick off in December and January.

Garry's climb: Veterans supporting veterans

Garry's 16-day Aconcagua expedition is backed by Climb 2 Recovery, a group helping veterans heal through mountaineering.
The challenge brings together British and Argentinian vets, showing how shared experiences can build new connections—even on a 6,967-meter mountain.

Alan's Atlantic row: Grit, goals, and giving back

Alan heads to the Canary Islands on November 29 before starting his two-month row to Antigua on December 12.
After five years of training and funding it himself despite sponsor struggles, he also raised £7,500 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Both brothers are tackling their challenges separately—no contact until they're done.
