National School of Drama lands in Mumbai

Entertainment

The National School of Drama (NSD) just opened its first-ever Mumbai center, bringing top-notch theater education right to the city's creative core.
This is a big moment for NSD after 65 years, and the launch drew in well-known theater personalities and alumni who celebrated the milestone.

Making theater more accessible (and local)

Director Chittaranjan Tripathy says the new center is all about making theater easier to access—even if it starts from a rented space.
He's excited about tapping into Mumbai's vibrant arts scene, with plans for a writing course, noting that Mumbai is the best place for such a program and that the best writers will guide the students here.
There are also talks with the state government for future expansion, as NSD hopes this can be a model for centers across India.
