Rajamouli says 'Varanasi' shot in IMAX to capture grand vision
What's the story
Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli recently revealed that his upcoming film, Varanasi, was shot in IMAX format to capture its grand scale and vision. He explained this decision during a discussion at the film's trailer launch event last year, which has now been posted online. The director emphasized that the choice of format was essential for certain scenes, particularly those set in Antarctica and featuring Ramayana elements.

Rajamouli elaborated on his decision, saying, "The format is to encompass the scale." "For example, the Antarctica portion, the Ramayana portion, you have seen how they're tall and vertical." "To encompass them is why we need the bigger format. That has been the main reason why we filmed in IMAX." He added that all technical aspects would be handled by his Director of Photography (DOP), while he would focus on conveying his vision for the film.
