Rajasthan HC denies bail to Vikram Bhatt in ₹30cr fraud case
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari are in legal trouble after being accused of cheating Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, out of ₹30 crore.
The couple was arrested in Mumbai on December 7, 2024, and brought to Udaipur for police custody.
Their requests for interim bail were turned down twice last month.
What's behind the fraud charges?
The case started when Dr. Murdia asked Bhatt to make a biopic about his late wife.
Bhatt reportedly promised four films for ₹47 crore with big profit projections but only one film was released, one completed, a third partly shot, and the fourth not started.
According to the FIR filed on November 17, 2024, the couple allegedly used fake invoices and paperwork to move funds elsewhere.
On January [year], the Rajasthan High Court refused to cancel the charges against them, so the investigation is still going strong.
