What's the story

Filmmaker Shashank Khaitan has clarified that Alia Bhatt was never approached for his latest film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The movie, released on Thursday, was earlier rumored to be a part of the Dulhania franchise with Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in lead roles. However, Khaitan told Free Press Journal that this was not the case and it was always intended as Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

Filmmaker's statement

Khaitan on rumored approach to Bhatt

Khaitan said, "I know Alia, and at the time when I was writing the film, I was very aware that she was not free for the next 2-3 years because of her work schedules." "So I and Varun and Karan (Johar, the producer) had spoken to Alia on a few other things, a few other ideas sometimes to make a Dulhania but this was never it."

Film's uniqueness

'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' is its own film

Khaitan further explained that Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari was always intended to be its own film. "It's pretty much in a similar universe but it's a bit of a different film and I'm excited about how people are going to pursue it or see it." The film stars Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, and Akshay Oberoi in lead roles.
