Amid water crisis, Rajinikanth's daughter shares pool pictures with son
Superstar Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth had to pull down a couple of photos she clicked with her son, Ved, which showed them enjoying in a swimming pool. The reason for that is the backlash she received on social media with many pointing out that she's being insensitive given that Chennai is reeling under severe water crisis. The pertinent question is - how are they so tone-deaf?
Soundarya had posted the photos on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and captioned it as, "Teach them early ... and they learn to shine by themselves !!! #Swimming is an essential activity !! #TeachThemYoung #KeepThemActive #WaterFun #EnsureSafetyAlways #NeverLeaveThemAlone #Motherhood #Bliss." After facing the wrath, she deleted those, however mentioning those were to "emphasize the importance for physical activities for children from a young age only."
Yesterday around afternoon, she tweeted, "Removed the pictures shared in good spirit from my #TravelDiaries considering the sensitivity around the current #WaterScarcity we are facing. The throwback pics were to emphasize the importance for physical activities for children from a young age only #LetsSaveWater."
Removed the pictures shared in good spirit from my #TravelDiaries considering the sensitivity around the current #WaterScarcity we are facing 🙏🏻. The entire episode however has left Twitter divided. While some felt that she's being targeted for being the daughter of a celebrity, some asked her to "please remove in Facebook also." "Sadly...People don't understand the context..they take it in whichever way they want. Good decision," one said. Meanwhile, another wrote, "Your responsiveness is impressive. Good gesture. For that matter is concern the entire nation."
This isn't the first time the 34-year-old director-producer has faced the ire of netizens. Earlier in February, when she posted her honeymoon pictures from Iceland featuring her second husband, actor-businessman Vishagan Vanangamudi, Twitterati burst out. They asked her to refrain from uploading happy pictures when the entire nation was mourning the loss of the CRPF jawans killed in Pulwama attack on February 14.
Soundarya, who was earlier married to Chennai-based industrialist Ashwin Ramkumar, tied the knot to Vishagan on February 11 in a lavish ceremony in Chennai. Soundarya wore a magenta saree with heavy golden work, designed by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. The wedding festivities kick-started on February 8, and went on for four days. Ved, her son with Ashwin, was the chief guest at the wedding.
Chennai's water crisis, meanwhile, sees no respite yet. Monsoon is yet to hit the city, and heat is grueling. All four reservoirs that supply the city with water- including the Chembarambakkam lake, Chennai's largest source of drinking water- have turned dry. Furthermore, groundwater has also depleted, leaving residents heavily reliant on private water tankers, that are reportedly increasing prices to profit off the drought.
