'Supergirl' teaser: Milly Alcock's anti-hero journey begins
What's the story
DC Studios has finally unveiled the first official trailer for its upcoming film, Supergirl. The preview was released online on Thursday after an exclusive screening in Manhattan, attended by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, director Craig Gillespie, and lead actor Milly Alcock. The footage showcases how Alcock's character Kara Zor-El will forge her own identity within the DC Universe, separate from her cousin Superman's optimistic outlook.

'She's got a lot of baggage...'
The trailer, set to Blondie's Call Me, begins with a disheveled Kara celebrating her birthday with her super-powered dog, Krypto. Director Gillespie hinted at the film's focus on Kara's internal conflicts. "This is really an anti-hero story. She's got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different from where Superman is in his life," he said in a statement.

'Supergirl' trailer introduces new universe and characters
The trailer takes us into gritty, intergalactic settlements inhabited by morally ambiguous humanoid aliens, reminiscent of the chaotic environments in Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films. Fans also get a brief glimpse of Jason Momoa as Lobo, the cigar-smoking, motorcycle-riding anti-hero that Gunn has been envisioning since he took over DC Studios. The film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
