Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 1, 1979. He is the son of photographer Coni (Lemke) and painter Joseph Momoa. His father is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan origin, while his mother is of German, Irish, and Native American ancestry and hails from Iowa. Momoa was reared by his mother in Norwalk, Iowa. He traveled to Hawaii after high school and earned a lead part in the TV series ‘Baywatch,’ beating out thousands of other aspirants. He spent the next few years after the show finished traveling throughout the world. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2001, where he continued his acting career. He was cast as the popular character ‘Ronon Dex’ in the cult-like television series ‘Stargate’ after the short-lived TV series ‘North Shore: Atlantis’. In 2010, he starred as Khal Drogo, the Dothraki monarch, in the Emmy-nominated HBO series, ‘Game of Thrones.’ Momoa is married to actress Lisa Bonet and has two daughters, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf.
