Supreme Court considers filmmaker's plea in Kahaani 2 script case
Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh is facing a copyright case after the Supreme Court sent him a notice about his 2016 film Kahaani 2.
Writer Umesh Prasad Mehta claims Ghosh used his script, Sabak, without permission.
Legal action was first started by a court in Jharkhand under the Copyright Act.
Mehta's script was shared with Ghosh in 2015
Mehta says he shared his script with Ghosh in 2015, hoping for help with registration, but alleges it was used without consent.
Ghosh's side counters that their script was finished and registered way back in 2013—before Mehta's claim even came up—and questions whether the Jharkhand court should handle this since their meeting happened in Mumbai.
After the High Court refused to drop the case, Ghosh went to the Supreme Court, which has now excused him from appearing personally while it reviews whether this complaint should stand.
