Supreme Court criticizes thug life ban

Kamal Haasan's new film Thug Life finally gets the green light in Karnataka, after the Supreme Court stepped up against its unofficial ban.
The court made it clear: "Rule of law says film with CBFC clearance has to be released in every state," and warned that mobs can't decide what plays in cinemas.

Court rebuked HC for suggesting Haasan should apologize

The Supreme Court also called out the Karnataka High Court for suggesting Haasan should apologize for his earlier comments about Kannada and Tamil.
They stated that courts can't decide what public sentiment is.
The judges pointed out that failing to act on threats led to an unfair ban, which goes against free speech.

'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life marks Haasan's first team-up with Ratnam in 37 years.
Despite earning ₹92 crore globally in just eight days, missing out on Karnataka hurt its box office run.
Haasan is used to controversy—often because of his outspoken views—but this time, the focus is firmly on upholding creative freedom.
