What's the story

In a major development, the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has announced that no new Tamil films will be released in theaters from September 1. This decision comes in response to the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and Distributors Association's recent announcement to screen only those movies which have an eight-week theatrical window before their OTT release. The TFPC made this announcement after a meeting on Saturday at their premises, reported ANI.

Unilateral decisions

'Unilateral decision by distributors, theater owners'

TFPC stated that the Distributors Association and Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association had unilaterally decided to screen new films only if producers provide a written commitment for an eight-week theatrical window before their OTT release.

They also decided against providing advance payments for new films.

The Producers Council emphasized that such decisions were not discussed with them or other industry associations.

Statement

Producers Council refuses to accept decision

The Producers Council stated, "Therefore, when such a decision is taken, the Producers Council has decided not to release new films."

They further added that they cannot accept decisions made unilaterally by the Distributors Association and Theatre Owners Association without consulting producers.

The statement also highlighted the challenges faced by producers, stating that around 250 films are released each year and many struggle to complete and release their films.
