    Veteran music composer Khayyam passes away due to lung infection
  • Renowned music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam, who is known for his work in Kabhi Kabhie, Umrao Jaan etc., passed away today in Mumbai. He was 92.

    According to reports, the Padma Bhushan recipient was rushed to hospital last week following an infection in lungs.

    After his health deteriorated, he was shifted to the ICU where his condition remained critical eventually leading to his death.

  • Reportedly, the veteran artist was admitted to the hospital after he collapsed in his residence a few weeks back.

    Earlier last week, his health was apparently stable, but he was under observation, thus wasn't discharged.

    "We don't know when he'll get discharged from the hospital but we are all praying for his speedy recovery," his friend and ghazal singer Talat Aziz had stated.

  • For the uninitiated, Khayyam got his first break in 1953 in Dilip Kumar starrer Foot Path.

    Later, he worked in several blockbusters like Trishul (1978), Noorie (1979), Razia Sultan (1983) etc.

    Reminiscing about his magnificent journey in Bollywood, Khayyam had once stated, "I've received a lot of love from the industry. I am lucky to have made the kinds of songs I wanted to."

  • On a related note, Khayyam on his 89th birthday in 2016, had announced his trust, Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur KPG Charitable Trust.

    He also declared that he would donate his entire wealth of Rs. 10 crore to this trust to support the aspiring artists and technicians in the film industry.

    "I have given everything I had to my motherland," he had said.
