YRF to distribute Dinesh Vijan's 'Ikkis' in international markets
What's the story
Yash Raj Films (YRF) has announced that it will be distributing the upcoming war drama Ikkis in international markets. The film is based on the life of India's youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient, Arun Khetarpal, and will release on December 25. This marks the fourth collaboration between YRF's overseas distribution division and Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films since their partnership began in 2025. The movie is directed by Sriram Raghavan.
Distribution success
YRF and Maddock Films: A successful partnership
The partnership between YRF and Maddock Films started with Chhaava, followed by Bhool Chuk Maaf, Thamma, and now Ikkis. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, "In all these three films, there were challenges, but YRF managed to tide over it, thanks to its reputation and vast experience in distribution overseas." For instance, Chhaava released on the same day as Captain America: Brave New World and Ne Zha 2 in North America but still secured enough screens.
Last-minute changes
YRF's strategic maneuvering in challenging release schedules
The source added that Bhool Chuk Maaf was initially slated for a May 9 release but was pushed to May 23. This last-minute change and the decision to premiere on OTT two weeks later resulted in no releases in several regions and cinemas. However, YRF's goodwill helped navigate these challenges. They added, "As for Thamma, it had a mid-week release, on a Tuesday. Yet, the YRF team effectively got a smooth release for the film in foreign markets."
Upcoming challenges
'Ikkis' faces tough competition in international markets
Ikkis will be YRF's biggest test yet. The film is releasing just six days after the year's biggest Hollywood release, Avatar: Fire And Ash, and also competes with Anaconda. It also clashes with another major Hindi release, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri on December 25. However, given their successful handling of previous releases, industry insiders expect YRF to find the right screens and momentum for Ikkis. Ikkis stars Dharmendra, Agastya Nanda, Simar Bhatia, and Jaideep Ahlawat.
