Veteran Bollywood actor Zeenat Aman took to Instagram on Friday to share a powerful message about embracing the term "aunty." In her post, she questioned why "aunty" is often used derogatorily and highlighted the significant role such figures play in our lives. The post resonated with many, including filmmaker and host Karan Johar, who said he felt inspired to accept being addressed as "uncle."
'Aunty' isn't derogatory, says Aman
Aman shared a picture of herself wearing a jumper with the word "aunty" printed on it in red. She wrote, "Which genius decided that 'aunty' is a derogatory term? It certainly wasn't me." She went on to describe the various roles an "aunty" can play in one's life, from providing a shoulder to lean on to offering pearls of wisdom. "Where would we be without those ubiquitous older women who make our lives comfortable and warm and secure?"
Actor shared personal experience with her 'aunty'
Aman went on to share a personal anecdote about her stepmother, whom she referred to as "Shamim Aunty." She described how her stepmother was a pillar of support when her sons were young, taking care of them and checking in on her every day. The 72-year-old actor encouraged her followers to share their own stories about the extraordinary "aunties" in their lives.

Aman's post garnered a lot of attention, with several celebrities expressing their agreement. Johar commented, "This piece has inspired me to accept and welcome being addressed as 'Uncle.'.. it's time to embrace the inevitable and also acknowledge the positives of being a worldly wise uncle." Actor Dia Mirza also shared that she is happy to be "Dia Aunty" to all her kids' friends.
Meanwhile, Aman to make comeback with 'Bun Tikki'
On the work front, Aman is all set to make her comeback with the film Bun Tikki, which co-stars Abhay Deol and Shabana Azmi. The film is directed by Faraaz Arif Ansari. She will also be seen in the Netflix show The Royals, alongside Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, and Nora Fatehi.
