'Zero' trailer gets 100-million views across platforms, we aren't surprised
Ahead of its release on December 21, 'Zero' has managed to set a record. The trailer of the Aanand L Rai directorial has got 100 million views across platforms, making it the first Indian movie to achieve the feat. Considering the rousing applause the trailer got, this is hardly surprising. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead.
The trailer released on November 2, the birthday of SRK. All his fans and even his critics lost their collective minds after the trailer. In the movie, set in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, SRK plays the role of vertically-challenged Bauua Singh. Bauua, whose swag is unique, wants to get married soon and meets paraplegic Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, played by Anushka.
Rai, who is known for making movies set in the heartland, brought Bollywood's biggest superstar for his next and everyone got visibly excited. What has raised expectations from this movie is that Himanshu Sharma has written the screenplay and dialogues of it. In case you didn't know, Sharma co-wrote 'Raanjhnaa', and we all know how popular the dialogues became.
The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged that 'Zero' hurt Sikh religious sentiments. In his complaint, Sirsa claimed that SRK devalued Sikh Kakaar - 'Gatra Kirpan'. Notably, one of the posters of 'Zero' featured SRK wearing Kirpan as an ordinary dagger while it can only be worn by Amritdhari Sikhs.
After the row, makers released a statement saying in the movie doesn't depict a Kirpan. "The filmmakers have been careful not to hurt the feelings of any community including the Sikh community. The film is about celebrating incompleteness and to tell a heartfelt story," the statement read. Whether the movie will see a smooth release or not, is only a question time will answer.
