After 5 years, direct flights between India, China resume
India
After a long five-year pause, direct flights between India and China finally took off again this Sunday.
The first group of passengers from New Delhi got a warm welcome in Shanghai from India's Consul General, Pratik Mathur.
IndiGo and China Eastern Airlines are both operating new routes to get travel and trade moving smoothly between the two countries.
Routes and resumption
IndiGo restarted Kolkata-Guangzhou flights on October 26 (daily), and China Eastern brought back its Shanghai-New Delhi route on November 9 (three times a week).
IndiGo is also kicking off daily Delhi-Guangzhou flights soon.
These moves are part of bigger plans to boost trade, tourism, and cultural ties that hit pause during the pandemic and recent diplomatic tensions.
