Anand Bhawan: News
Anand Bhawan in Prayagraj is a historic house museum associated with the iconic Nehru family. The building is maintained by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund which is headed by Sonia Gandhi. It was built and personally designed by former Congress President and politician Motilal Nehru in the 1930s. The double-story mansion was constructed to serve as the official residence of the Nehru family after their original palatial mansion Swaraj Bhawan was turned into the Indian National Congress headquarters in the 1920s. Anand Bhawan also houses the famous Jawahar Planetarium. The residence beautifully showcases the articles, remembrances, and artifacts of India’s independent movement era. The museum is well decorated with various artifacts from all around the world and is furnished with wooden furniture that was originally imported from Europe and China. The house was also visited by prominent freedom fighters. In 1970, it was donated to the Government of India by the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
