Anil Swarup: News

Anil Swarup is a retired 1981-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is also an author and has written books like ‘Not Just A Civil Servant’ and ‘Ethical Dilemmas of a Civil Servant’, banking on his 38-year experience as a government official. He completed his Masters in Political Science from the University of Allahabad in 1978 and soon joined the Indian Police Service (IPS). After a year in service, he joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1981 and held key positions in the Uttar Pradesh state government. Swarup served in the Government of India for nearly two decades and is primarily known for his efficient handling of matters as the Coal Secretary in the aftermath of the Coalgate Scam. Toward the end of his career, between 2016-2018, he served as the Secretary for School Education & Literacy in the Government of India. He has been an author and regular columnist post-retirement.
