Bihar BJP MLA disqualified after assault conviction

Mishrilal Yadav, BJP MLA from Alinagar, Bihar, has been disqualified from the state Assembly after being convicted for assault and cash snatching.
The case goes back to 2019, when Yadav and an associate were found guilty of attacking Umesh Mishra when he was on a morning walk.

Court sentenced Yadav to 2 years in jail

On May 27, 2025, a Darbhanga court sentenced Yadav to two years in jail and fined him ₹1 lakh—an increase from his earlier three-month sentence after the victim appealed.
If he doesn't pay the fine, he faces an extra month in prison.
The Assembly officially disqualified him as soon as the order arrived.
While Yadav has acknowledged the verdict, he plans to challenge it in Patna High Court.
