Bijapur: 6 Maoists, including 2 commanders, gunned down in encounter

India

Six Maoists, including two top commanders, were killed on Tuesday during a long gunfight with security forces inside Indravati National Park, Bijapur district.
Acting on intel about senior leaders hiding in the area, the District Reserve Guard and Special Task Force launched the operation.
The bodies recovered carried bounties totaling ₹27 lakh.

Buchanna and Urmila among those killed

Among those killed were Buchanna—a divisional committee member linked to deadly attacks on police and civilians—and Urmila, who handled supplies for the group.
Security forces seized rifles, explosives, grenades, communication gear, and Maoist literature at the site.
Extra reinforcements were sent in to block any escape routes as part of an ongoing crackdown that has seen at least 144 Maoists killed in this region since January 2025.
