Incident details
Boy was tied up and hung from a window
According to India Today, the boy's mother, Doli, alleged that principal Reena summoned the school driver Ajay to punish her son. She claimed Ajay slapped the boy, made video calls to friends while abusing him, and uploaded the video online. The clip eventually reached the child's family, exposing the abuse. In another viral video, principal Reena was seen slapping and beating small children in front of other students.
Defense and allegations
Children were sometimes made to clean toilets as punishment
Principal Reena defended her actions by saying the children had misbehaved with two sisters, and she had informed their parents before disciplining them. Parents also alleged that children were sometimes made to clean toilets as punishment. When confronted, principal Reena admitted she asked Ajay to scold the boy on August 13 but insisted the driver was dismissed in August due to repeated complaints about his behavior.
Legal proceedings
Ajay tried to intimidate family after video went viral
However, the boy's family alleged Ajay tried to intimidate them by sending a group of men to their house after the video was shared. After the complaint, police at Model Town station registered a case under various sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Corporal punishment is prohibited in Indian schools by law under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
