IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and southern interior Karnataka. The alert comes as the southwest monsoon season continues to linger over southern India. A yellow alert has also been issued for Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Mahe on Saturday. The IMD expects the southwest monsoon to withdraw from many parts of India over the next 3-4 days, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

Heavy rainfall expected in South India on October 11
Light to moderate rainfall is likely across South India till October 13. Tamil Nadu, the southern interior of Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, and Mahe are expected to receive showers and thunderstorms. The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in these areas on all three days, with very heavy rain over north Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, and coastal & south interior Karnataka on October 11.

Odisha is also likely to see light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in the state with thunderstorms and gusty winds on October 11 and 12. In Northeast India, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to witness light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rainfall on Saturday.
