Heavy rains trigger landslips in coastal Karnataka
Heavy rains are causing trouble in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, with landslides hitting key roads. On Saturday, a landslip on National Highway-169 near Mangaluru was quickly managed by the highway authorities, so traffic kept moving. The India Meteorological Department has put out a red alert—meaning extremely heavy rain (over 204mm) is expected until June 16 morning, and people are being urged to stay safe.
Trains running late
The downpour isn't just making roads messy—it's also slowing down trains. A second landslip between Jokatte and Padil means trains from Mangaluru Central and Junction are running late since they're sharing a single line until repairs finish. Some areas like Pudu Gram Panchayat have seen nearly 190mm of rain in just one day, according to disaster monitoring officials.
