Himachal gets 1st snowfall of the season, IMD warns of risks

India

The higher regions of Himachal Pradesh, like Rohtang Pass and the Dhauladhar ranges, just got their first snowfall of the season this Sunday.
Along with the snow came strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning, and intermittent rains.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out an orange alert for Monday, October 6, warning that heavy rainfall will likely continue across several districts, with enhanced precipitation expected until October 7.

Risks include flash floods, landslides, travel disruptions

The IMD says to watch out for flash floods, landslides, and travel disruptions—especially in places like Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi Sirmaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.
With minimum temperatures dropping (Tabo hit just 3.1°C), things are getting chilly fast.
Roads like Rohtang Pass are already closed due to unsafe conditions and heavy rain is hitting many areas—Olinda got 29mm since Saturday night.
If you're in or heading to Himachal this week, it's a good idea to stay updated on the weather!
