Jewar airport to start operations in December: All we know
The Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is gearing up to open for commercial flights this December.
Built through a partnership between the Uttar Pradesh government and Zurich AG, this new airport aims to take some load off Delhi's IGI Airport by serving growing areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura, Agra, and nearby areas.
NIA will eventually expand to cover 70 million passengers
NIA will launch with one runway and a terminal that can handle 12 million travelers a year.
There are already plans to ramp this up—30 million passengers by 2030, with an eventual goal of 70 million.
The airport itself will expand too, covering over twice as much land as IGI.
NIA will connect at least 10 cities right from the start
Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu observes that NIA will link at least 10 cities right from the start.
Even though it's nearly 60km from central Noida, both state and central governments are working on better transport connections so it fits smoothly into the region's travel network.
It's a clear sign they're betting big on making Delhi-NCR more connected and globally competitive.
