Karnataka farmer dies after setting himself on fire during protest
M.D. Manjegowda, a 55-year-old farmer from Mandya, Karnataka, died after setting himself on fire during a protest over delayed government compensation for his acquired land.
His protest took place outside the Mandya Deputy Commissioner's office, where he had repeatedly appealed for payment or alternative land but received no response.
State minister announced ₹5 lakh for Manjegowda's family
Manjegowda was treated locally before being moved to Bengaluru, but sadly passed away from severe burns.
Authorities are expected to gather statements from his family and local officials as part of their investigation into why the compensation was delayed.
In response, a state minister announced ₹5 lakh for Manjegowda's family and promised to push for more help while authorities review other pending land cases.
