Karnataka: RSS leader Bhat booked for provocative comments

India

Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, a well-known RSS leader in Karnataka, has been booked after allegedly making provocative comments during a speech near Puttur on October 20.
The police registered an FIR on October 25 following a complaint that accused him of stirring up communal tension and disrespecting women.

Bhat's previous legal troubles

Bhat reportedly compared how Hindu and Muslim women are treated for having more children, claiming Hindu women face ridicule while Muslim women are not ridiculed in the same manner.
Police have charged him under laws about promoting enmity and insulting women's modesty, and he's been called in for questioning on October 30.
Notably, this isn't the first time Bhat has faced legal trouble for controversial remarks—he was given interim relief from arrest in a similar case earlier.
