Pune: 6 drown as boat capsizes in Ujani dam backwater

What's the story

At least six people are feared to have drowned after their boat capsized in the Ujani Dam near Kalashi village, Maharashtra, on Tuesday evening. The mishap took place close to Indapur Tahseel in Pune district, approximately 140 km from the city. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed for search and rescue operations.

According to Indapur tehsildar Shrikant Patil, the deceased included three men, a woman, and two children. Pune superintendent of police, Deshmukh, stated, "Seven people were in the boat. One of them swam to safety and raised an alarm." The incident occurred during a thunderstorm, accompanied by strong winds, which made it difficult for the boat to stay afloat.
