  • A report released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion placed Uttar Pradesh as India's topmost mobile manufacturing state.

    It accounts for around half of the mobile device production capacity in the country.

    "38 new mobile manufacturing units with over 20 million units per month capacity have been set up since September 2015," stated the report.

  • A combined study done by IIM Bangalore and Counterpoint Research, a market research firm predicted that in the next 5 years, India will become a global mobile phone manufacturing hub.

    According to the study, India is set to manufacture mobile phone components worth $80 billion.

    Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT said, "India can potentially be the world leader in mobile-phone manufacturing."

  • In terms of users, India's smartphone market has surpassed America's and is now second largest globally. The contribution of domestically manufactured mobile phones increased from 14% in 2014 to 67% in 2016. According to estimates, it will reach 96% by 2020.

  • According to the report, the total production capacity of the country is 20.7 million.

    Out of this, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 10 million of the mobile production capacity; it is followed by Haryana with a 2.5 million capacity.

    India's mobile handset manufacturing has witnessed a growth of 185% in value and 90% in volume in 2015-16 as compared to 2014-15.

  • Out of the 38 mobile manufacturing units that India hosts, Uttar Pradesh is responsible for 13 of them.

    It's followed by Delhi with 6 manufacturing units and Andhra Pradesh with 4 manufacturing units.

    Haryana and Uttarakhand have 3 manufacturing units each, Maharashtra and Telangana have 2.

    There is 1 manufacturing unit each in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Daman.
