Mumbai-Goa highway toll booths ready, but road still bumpy
Toll booths on the Palaspe-Indapur stretch of the Mumbai-Goa highway are expected to start charging drivers within a week, even though big parts of the road are still unfinished.
NHAI, the National Highways Authority of India, is constructing plazas at Kharpada and Khamb, with another coming up at Lohare.
NHAI says phase 1 is nearly done
NHAI's Ravindra Ingule says phase one is nearly done and toll prices will be announced soon.
The whole project, which started way back in 2011, now aims for a May 2026 finish for much of the widening (the Indapur-Mangaon bypass is an exception); some officials said completion for specific sections is expected by the end of May 2026 after years of delays from funding and land issues.
Residents are not happy about paying tolls
People living in Konkan aren't happy about paying to use a bumpy, accident-prone road.
Many residents have expressed resentment and complained because key bridges such as Nagothane and Kolad remain unfinished.
