Music during surgery might help you bounce back faster, says new study

India

Turns out, having some gentle background music—think soft flute—while you're in surgery could actually speed up your recovery.
Researchers at Delhi's Maulana Azad Medical College found that patients who listened to instrumental music needed less anesthesia and bounced back more quickly, with steadier vital signs than those who had no music at all.

How the study worked—and why it matters

The team studied 56 people getting their gallbladders removed.
Those with music needed lower doses of common anesthetics like propofol and fentanyl.
The researchers explained that even under general anesthesia, your brain still picks up on sounds—which might be why music helps keep stress levels and blood pressure in check.
This could mean fewer drugs and smoother recoveries for future patients.
