National Herald case: Gandhis linked to ₹2,000-crore fraud

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused Sonia and Rahul Gandhi of helping take over assets worth ₹2,000 crore from the publisher of the National Herald newspaper.
According to the ED, they did this by using a company they mostly own to repay a loan for just ₹50 lakh—securing properties that were meant for public-interest journalism.
The case is being heard daily in a Delhi court and also involves other senior Congress leaders.

TL;DR

Trial could shape trust in politics for long time

This isn't just about big numbers or political headlines—it's about claims that powerful people may have used their influence to turn public resources into private gain.
If proven, it could seriously impact the Congress party's reputation and even change how people view political accountability in India.
With assets already seized and more evidence under review, this trial could shape trust in politics for a long time.
