A Pakistani prisoner lodged in Jaipur Central Jail was allegedly murdered by inmates following an altercation. The Rajasthan Inspector General of Police for Prisons has reportedly confirmed the murder. Senior police officials and forensic experts rushed to the jail to probe the incident that comes days after the Pulwama attack. The Pakistani inmate, identified as Shakirullah, was held on charges of espionage. Here's more.

Shakirullah, the Pakistani prisoner, was allegedly beaten to death by inmates inside the jail. Three prisoners are believed to be involved in his murder, according to initial reports. The incident comes only days after the Pulwama terror attack in which as many as 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives. Some reports claim the Pakistani man was killed by inmates enraged over the Pulwama incident.

"He (Pakistani inmate Shakirullah) was lodged here since 2011 and died following a brawl with other inmates," Jaipur Jail IG Rupinder Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Senior prison officials are looking into the matter, said reports.

Deceased received serious injuries in head caused by blunt object

According to reports, the deceased Pakistani prisoner received serious injuries to his head as he was hit with a blunt object after a quarrel with inmates. IG Rupinder Singh said the post mortem will be conducted under judicial supervision on the jail premises. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was reportedly collecting evidence from the incident spot.

Shakirullah was serving life sentence under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act

Fifty-year-old Shakirullah, who hailed from Sialkot in Pakistan's Punjab, was hit with a large stone, an official said. IG Singh said Shakirullah, lodged in the Central Jail's special cell since 2011, was serving a life sentence under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. "The matter will be investigated by a judicial magistrate and also by the police," Rajasthan Director General of Police Kapil Garg said.

Here's a little about the Pulwama attack

A convoy of CRPF which had 70 buses was attacked on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on February 14. A Mahindra Scorpio, laced with nearly 350kg of explosives, rammed into a bus. In the dastardly attack, 40 jawans lost their lives and nearly 50 were seriously injured. Terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for worst terror attack since the 2016 Uri attack.

Pakistan Army, ISI involved in Pulwama attack, say security agencies

While the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terror outfit carried out the Pulwama attack, Indian security agencies say that the Pakistan Army and the country's intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence, are involved in the attack. However, Pakistan has denied the same. PM Narendra Modi, meanwhile, said that full freedom has been given to the security forces to retaliate to the deadly Pulwama attack.
